CloudGrid Energy and Policloud sign a €580M framework agreement for 280 AI computing units across Europe

280 Policloud units on 16 secured sites in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Sweden: 29,000 GPUs, 2,000,000 vCPUs and 35 MW by end of 2027.

CloudGrid Energy and Policloud teams meeting around the table for the framework agreement

Paris, 10 June 2026 — CloudGrid Energy, a company specialising in the development and operation of decentralised digital infrastructure units powered by renewable energy, and Policloud, a French company within the Antimatter group specialising in distributed computing infrastructure for artificial intelligence, have signed a framework agreement for the supply of 280 Policloud units, to be deployed by CloudGrid Energy by the end of 2027.

Sixteen sites have already been secured in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Sweden. Once all 280 units are deployed, the network will provide 29,000 GPUs and 2,000,000 vCPUs, with a total energy capacity of 35 MW, built in just 18 months. European companies will gain access to affordable, sovereign, high-performance computing, until now reserved for the largest global digital players, and will be able to develop and operate open-source AI models such as Mistral, Nemo and Magistral.

Under the agreement, CloudGrid Energy leads the development, financing and operation of Policloud deployment projects on sites offering green, competitively priced energy, controlled land availability and existing grid connections: primarily solar plants, wind farms and biomass plants, as well as electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

Deployment partners include Urbasolar, one of Europe's leading independent photovoltaic producers, which provides access to its portfolio of solar plants and manages installation, permitting and grid connection. The first unit is already operational at the Bonne Voisine site in the Aube region of France.

The agreement comes as hyperscaler capacity is under severe strain: Microsoft has said that demand for Azure exceeds the capacity it has available and expects to remain capacity-constrained until at least mid-2026. According to Deloitte, inference will account for around two-thirds of global AI compute demand in 2026, and the International Energy Agency expects data centre electricity consumption to double between 2022 and 2026.

Each Policloud unit is a high-performance computing module interconnected with the Poligrid distributed network. It can be deployed on site within a few months and integrates GPUs, CPUs, storage, a water-free cooling system and ultra-high-speed connectivity. The capacity is primarily aimed at European SMEs, startups and entrepreneurs facing high inference costs and growing dependence on non-European hyperscalers.

“Europe has tremendous renewable energy potential, still underexploited, to meet the needs of the digital economy. This framework agreement with Policloud is a foundational step for CloudGrid Energy. Our ambition is to build a sovereign European computing network, site by site, in close partnership with energy producers.” — Eric Reisse, CEO & Co-Founder of CloudGrid Energy.
